Temuquense painter receives its second awardo in Europe in less than a year.

The artistic work of Francisco Badilla, professor of painting and drawing at the Catholic University of Temuco and the Armando Dufey Art School, is increasingly recognized in the Iberian Peninsula.

In addition to the two special mentions that he already received this year in Porto (Portugal) and Oviedo (Spain) respectively, he has now been awarded the first prize in the 23rd Indalecio Hernández Vallejo International Painting Competition, organized by the Municipality of Valencia de Alcántara (Spain). With an oil painting entitled "The color collector", Francisco Badilla won over 260 artists residing in the European Union who submitted a total of 345 works to the competition. The award ceremony took place on December 6th.

Framed within contemporary realism, Badilla's winning work features a girl painting sitting at a desk in a gray atmosphere.

"It is an invitation to look at the world with the eyes of joy, creativity and without prejudice," said Badilla, "something very necessary in the national contingency that we are living in Chile at this time.

The title of the painting is a wink to the artist Miguel Angel Mayo, known as "Golucho", a world reference of the contemporary realism with which Badilla could be formed in Barcelona (Spain) recently.

"I could say that with Golucho I move from painting in color to painting in colors, the mastery I have gained over color explains in large part the new recognition obtained," explained the painter.

Badilla has been in Portugal since September 2018, studying for a Master's Degree in Painting at the University of Porto on a Conicyt Scholarship. His international training also includes two stays at the prestigious academy The Art Students League of New York, in the United States. In Chile, Badilla has won 4 national and 3 regional awards. In 2014 she won the painting contest organized annually by the Municipality of Temuco "La Araucanía de cordillera a mar".
